
What is your favorite part about working with a cosmetics line?
Getting out of my comfort zone! I’m a tomboy and didn’t wear make up for almost 20 years. When Motives® for La La was introduced, I had to rethink my Market America game plan.
What is your favorite Motives® product?
The Custom Blend Liquid Foundation. What other product gives you a customer for life because you have a product that they can’t get anywhere else, customized for them and at a 300% retail profit? Really? If all lipstick were created equally, custom blend is the game changer.
What is one mistake you made while building business, and what is your advice to others who want to avoid making the same mistake?
Spending too much time on the money aspect up front. People in the beauty industry want to know that they have a solid, high-quality product FIRST and then how they make the money. Don’t forget ultimately, we have to identify those people who want to move from being great technicians to entrepreneurs.
What is the one thing that the majority of Motives® Beauty Advisors don’t do every day but should?
Create a goal statement (backed up by your pain statement), an action plan and track your results every day. What doesn’t get measured, doesn’t get done. You must recommit daily to be personally accountable for your own success.
Can you share with us some of your best recruiting tips?
Find your prospect’s fundamental pain. What’s the core of their dreams and desires? And then show them how Motives® can help them achieve it. Always keep the focus on them not on you. I could go on and on! Last one – never leave an encounter without booking a solid next step.
What is the biggest mistake that Motives® Beauty Advisors make when using social media to build their business, and how can they avoid it?
Just reposting and not adding their own comment, ideas or contact information! People buy you before they buy the products or the business. Define and develop your personal brand and stay loyal to it.
What is your favorite approach for talking to people about Motives® cosmetics?
Compliment, compliment, compliment! I was in the airport last week and used my favorite line to a gorgeous woman. I walked up to her and said, “You are beautiful. What’s your story? Are you a makeup artist?” The majority of people say “No. I just love makeup.” And then we’re off to the recruiting races.
